The Village of Skippack

The Village of Skippack is Montgomery County’s beautiful, shining star. Once an encampment for General Washington’s Revolutionary War troops, and later a stop on a 1900’s rural trolley route, Skippack today has evolved into a bustling center of culture and charm.

The changes and improvements made here over the last several years are astonishing, from the culinary renaissance begun in the fine restaurants of Skippack Village to the Hotel Fiesole, a new sixteen room European style hotel in the middle of town. Yearly events in the Village never fail to bring a new twist to traditional holidays, and the pervading atmosphere of old country charm is spiced continually with a feeling of growth and change.

Skippack Events

Skippack Village is alive with excitement year round. Beginning in Spring, craft shows and family entertainment events provide a warm re-emergence from the winter season. Throughout the Summer, Skippack’s Summertime Concert series provides free music under the stars for all ages. The Fourth of July Parade & Fireworks, followed by the Skippack Village Carnival, round out the month of July. And signature village events such as Skippack Days, the Children’s Halloween Parade, Oktoberfest and the Lighting of the Village Tree complete the Fall and Winter seasons.

Historical Sites

The Skippack region is steeped in Revolutionary War history. Approximately two years after forming a new army and one year after Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, George Washington led the Continental Army through the Skippack Region on the way to the Battle of Germantown, and in retreat just after losing the battle to the British.

The area contains one of the largest groups of historic structures west of Philadelphia, ranging from houses and inns to mills and churches. Most date back to the early 1700's, have been fully restored, and are in daily use as private residences, restaurants and commercial establishments.

The Skippack Historical Society, a non-profit organization formed in 1967 for the purpose of researching and documenting the many historical sites and rich history of the Skippack Valley, has researched many of the area’s structures and historic sites and is a great resource to local residents interested in the area’s rich history.
